Q. I am a diabetic. I seem to get cavaties super easy and I think it might be my diabetes. Does having diabetes cause you to have bad teeth? Yes, I do brush my teeth, so please dont tell me to brush my teeth more. I was just wondering if this may be my problem. A. There is a lot things that can give you cavity, in my case it run in the family, I had been going to the dentist since I was 10 or 11. I had cavities, then gum desease ,which is worse. The dentist recommended a special tooth paste, is very expensive. Yes diabetes could affect your teeth. I promise you, I will find out, I will also ask my dentist. Im going into my final year of school next Tuesday and the main reason I am dreading it is because I cant concentrate with my stupid diabetes causing me to be too tired or hungry or just making me feel sick!I have really tried with the help of my endo. to get it under control but I constantly feel sick....Does diabetes effect your studying ability or is it just me?
A. You need to find a good food plan that doesn't add too many grams of carb to your meals. Then learn the carb counting down to a fine level. Atkins has a neat little pocket book at the check out at most grocery, drug and bookstore counters. Inexpensive!! It has all the common foods listed and lots of more exotic ones as well as the fast food and chain restaurants menus listed. You must learn how many grams of carb you can have per unit of insulin.
You need to be taking your basal at the exact same time or times each day.
Tight control is easy if you just work at it for a while. Then you won't feel all hungry, sick and dud headed.
I get cloudy headed and can't think when I let the glucose levels get over 150! Nothing penetrates my brain and I for sure can't read and retain anything I read.
Don't worry about the fat content of your food! Eat some meats and salads with good full fat tasty dressings. Hunger comes with lack of saturated fats in the food plan!!! That goes for anyone! Diet sodas can also cause a person to feel hungry all the time. Drink water with a tiny bit of fruit juice in it to flavor it. Much better for you than diet soda.

A. I don't know what doctor specializes in diabetes. Are there diabetic specialist? If there are you should probably consult one of those and not an endo doctor. Your diabetes must not be under control if you still feel so bad. You may also need to examine your diet and change that as well. My sister went to a really good family practice doctor who helped her analyze her eating patterns and showed her where it was causing her problem. Since that time her overall physical aliments have improved and she no longer feels tired or nauseous. I should also mention that her doctor continues to see her every couple of weeks for reevaluation of her food journal. It seems the first step for you is finding a good doctor. Good luck!
What are the supliments that a diabetic can take for nerves and mussels ?
Q. I am an insulin dependent diabetic from past 15 years . I am told diabetes causes nerve damage and weakening of the mussels . What vitamins , minerals or supliments are good to nurish the nerves and preserve mussle vitality ?
A. The one Vitimin to help protect nerves from damage is Vitamin B 12. Mecobalamin... Note the name . The're other B 12"s out their ,but this is the one that works best. I think you need prescription for this. I have neuropathy and this is the one drug that really helps.
