Can too much natural sugar cause diabetes?

Q. Ok. As far as I know, too much white sugar or the white crystal-like powder can cause diabetes. Can natural sugar (like natural sugar from sweet fruits) cause diabetes too?

A. Diabetes isn't caused by sugar intake at all. It isn't caused by diet (except in as much as being significantly overweight is a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes). There are no particular foods that cause or contribute to it.

Type 1 diabetes is an auto-immune disease where the body inexplicably attacks itself

Type 2 diabetes is hereditary - you won't get it unless you have diabetic genes. But diabetic genes on their own are not enough to cause diabetes - there have to be other risk factors involved. Someone without the genes can lie in bed all day eating pork pies, chocolate and mayonnaise sandwiches and candyfloss knocked back with gin and cola ; they won't be healthy, they'll almost certainly be overweight - but they won't develop diabetes. So bad choice of ancestors is the first step to getting type2 diabetes.

However diabetic genes are not enough to cause diabetes on their own. You are at increased risk of type 2 diabetes if, as well as having the necessary genes
*you are aged between 40 and 75
or
*you are of Asian or African-Carribean origin
or
*you are significantly overweight
or
*you are a woman who has had a baby weighing more than 4kg

Though these are the main risk factors, there are some other things that can trigger type 2 diabetes, eg steroid medicines. In my case it is thought possible that the steroids used in chemotherapy triggered my type2 diabetes, or pushed me 'over the edge' into diabetes .

Type 2 diabetes is almost always controlled by diet and other lifestyle changes like increased exercise. But it isn't caused by diet

Can fresh sugar cane juice be harmful or cause diabetes?
Q. I am planning for a master cleanse diet with fresh sugar cane juice as i am in INDIA. I do not get maple syrup grade b as easily as fresh sugar cane juice. If i drink 6-8 glasses of fresh sugar cane juice daily for 14 days, is it harmful? Will it cause diabetes due to excess intake of Sugar? Pl suggest and clarify..

A. You'd be better eating a sensible diet, I don't like the sound of drinking so much sugar but that wouldn't cause diabetes per se.

However if you are obese and have a long history of poor diet and lack of exercise you would be at increased risk of type II diabetes.

I eat a banana everyday, sometimes 3 times a day. Will this cause diabetes because of the sugar?

A. Consuming sugar will not cause diabetes. Remain active, watch your weight, and you can eat whatever you want with no worries.

does anyone know of any herbs or vitamin that may cause diabetes?
Q. I just wanted to knowif there were any herbs that a diabetic should stay away from or if there are any herbs that may cause diabetes? Please give some good advice, for take a lot of supplements and drink herbal teas.

A. I don't know of any vitamins. However, herbs like MARIJUANA can make you hungry and if you eat a lot of sugary things then you might get diabetes.
