How do I go about getting a speaker for a small meeting?

Q. I need to contact a speaker from a preferablly non-profit organization such as St. Jude Children's Hospital or the American Diabetes Association. I have looked in their "Contact Us" sections but have come up empty. What others ways might I get in contact with them? All help is very much appreciated.

A. their web site is covered with 0800 numbers so try them... including volunteering and fund raising and non-medical things... try it ... work those phones....

How to fundraise for diabetes?
Q. I am 14 years old and I am trying to raise 10,000 dollars for the american diabetes association. I need some fundraising ideas. I already thought of couple but i need more ideas. I have thought of benefit concert, raffles, money jar at local fooding areas, meet and greets and couple more. Can you give me some ideas?

A. We held a spaghetti supper for the JDRF local Walk to Cure Diabetes. It's easier than you think...
- Find a caterer that will work for cost (this is the only hard part)
- find a hall that can be donated (Legion posts are great)
- Find a baker (cakes), balloonery (if you want), florist, supermarket (for paper goods, utensils, tablecloths)
- We also did theme baskets that ended up valued so high, it brought in most of our funds. We had a "sports basket" w/ event tickets, autographed memorabelia, etc; a Travel basket; home improvement basket... We made up posters of the raffle baskets and sold tickets prior to the event (as well as at the event) to maximize donations. We made $5,000 our first year and look forward to doing it again next year.

Raffle basket donations means hitting the pavement. Lots of letter writing, phone calls and emails. But for every 10 refusals, you'll get one great donation. It's worth it. Especially if you get others to help you. It was REALLY rewarding too. You won't regret it.

why should someone donate towards research for diabetes?
Q. I have to present a persuasive speech and i need 3 reasons. I already have 2: It doubles the risk of death, and it is the #1 cause of kidney failure. I honestly can't find another reason.

By the way, my speech is why someone should donate to the American Diabetes Association.

A. Since we are all going to die, You cannot double the risk of death to 200% .

How to start a fund raising bike ride?
Q. i was wondering how to start a fund raising bike ride for Diabetes. my aunt died 4 years ago due to complications with diabetes and i thought it would be nice to raise some money to donate to the diabetes association...i have no idea how to begin to start something like this, any ideas will be appreciated..thnx!

A. -Print out flyers.
-Hang them in local shops and on trees
-Ask supermarkets/ groceries/ bakeries to donate snacks, Gatorade, Juice, and water.
-Either A) Ask family and friends to go to their employers/ other places to get sponsors for the riders or B) Ask riders to get a sponsor of 10? 20? 40? $
-Be sure to put the date, time, and place on the flyers.
-You might want to ask for volunteers to help setting up/ cleaning up/ running snack booths.
-Speaking of booths, it might be a good idea to ask companies for a donation and keychains, stickers, etc. so that you can give away stuff to bikers and get money for your cause.
-You might want to get some inexpensive medals (Oriental Trading) for first, second, and theird place winners. Perhaps you can even get gift cards, free air fare, or other such things to give away to winners.

Good Luck!
