does anyone knows where I can get free daibetes stuff for my 10 yearold?
Q. Daibete strips,

A. If you are unable to pay for diabetic supplies for your son, you may be able to get social assistance to pay for test strips, blood sugar monitors and other medications. I know doctors can give you samples of some medications but I don't know about diabetic supplies.Make an appointment with your son's doctor and ask if he or she knows of any agency that will help you get free or subsidized diabetic supplies.I'm sure that doctors have other patiients who are unable to afford their medications. In Ontario it is possible to qualify for asistance with medications based on your income. If you type in free diabetic supplies into your computer you will find many site that offer free supplies.I would check with your doctor to see if they would reccomend a site.

does diabetes cause low back pain and tingling feet?

Q. ya i have tingling feet and low back pain. Is it daibetes or someting else?

A. Tingling feet could be a vitamin B12 deficiency, neuropathy, or poor circulation.

"June 8, 2009 -- The popular diabetes drug metformin may contribute to vitamin B12 deficiency, according to a new study.

Researchers found that 40% of type 2 diabetes patients using metformin had vitamin B12 deficiency or were in the low-normal range for the essential vitamin. And 77% of metformin users with vitamin B12 deficiency also had peripheral neuropathy, a common form of nerve damage associated with type 2 diabetes.

Peripheral neuropathy is a type of nerve damage most often characterized by pain, tingling, and numbness in the hands and feet.

Because peripheral neuropathy is such a major complication of diabetes, researchers say the results suggest that people using metformin be screened for vitamin B12 deficiency or supplemented with vitamin B12. Also, anyone already diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy who uses metformin should be screened for vitamin B12 deficiency."

The type of B12 to use is methylcobalamin. The B12 you get in stores is cyanocobalamin, and it doesn't work. The cheapest source I've found is Swanson Vitamins, online.

"our examination of the research, which included 22 clinical investigations of patients with pain, found that those with chronic back pain almost always had inadequate levels of vitamin D. When sufficient vitamin D supplementation was provided, their pain either vanished or was at least helped to a significant extent."

If I the mother has type 1 diabetes does that mean that my son will have it two?
Q. when i wa pregnant i was told that any kids i have will end up with daibetes, is this true or is there a possibility that they wont have diabetes?

A. Your first two responders are incorrect. But especially the one that said the child might develop a different type of diabetes as a result of your type 1. The types of diabetes are not interchangeable, they have different causes and having one type will not cause your child to have a different type.

Type one diabetes is partially hereditary. But not in the traditional sense. I don't know what the percentage between mother and child is ... but I know that the sibling of a child with type 1 only has a 5% chance of developing it themselves. There are many cases where one out of a pair of identical twins will develop type 1, and the other won't.

You are predisposed to type 1 depending on a certain sequence of genes. There is one sequence that means you will have a 97% percent chance of developing it. There are other combinations that will give you a much, much lower chance, but still a chance. And some people have no chance of having it.

The other factor in developing type 1 is environmental. I'm not more specific because no one knows what in the environment is triggering it. There are studies going on right now where they might find it is triggered by a certain virus. We can only wait and see.

One thing I know for sure ... and I know you know this :o) but this is for the other people who are reading this. Type 1 diabetes is NOT caused by diet, not even partially. I hate it when I tell people my daughter has type 1 diabetes, and they start giving me diet tips for her. Grrrrr ...

--edit--

I forgot to add ... when I was talking about the genes that predisposed someone to having type 1 ... I meant to say that part of the genes that predispose you can come from one parent, and the rest can come from another parent. So the parents can have no chance of developing it, and the child may be almost guaranteed to get it.

So no, your child is not guaranteed to get it. It's not like eye color, it's more complex.

Really interesting stuff ...

Does drinking vitamn water not good if u have daibetes?
Q. I was thinking is it bad for u? What's bad? and what's good to drink if u have blood suger?

A. Most vitamin water does not have sugar, so it would be okay for a diabetic. Just look at the ingredients or the nutrition facts and see if it has sugar in it. The best thing to drink (diabetic or not) is cold, clean water!

What is it like to experience a diabetic attack?
Q. woow i know random questionn. but, a couple of my friends have daibetes, not to mentionn, nick jonass, and i always wondered what it was likee to experience a diabetic attack. what does it feel like?

A. As already stated, it is not something you want to experience. It's different for all people with diabetes and it can also vary from experience to experience. I have been a diabetic for over 40 years and I have only woken up in the back of an ambulance twice, because I had totally passed out, but mainly it's being very confused where even simple things like putting money in a cash drawer is impossible to figure out,. That was a bad one for me because I was working. Another time it felt like the people on the tv show I was watching were talking to me.
I think the worst for me is when I feel like I may be dead. It's strange, but it's happened when I was home alone and I had the need to reach someone by phone to prove that I was indeed still alive. The problem is, that you can't always figure out how to call them.
After getting sugar into my system I was fine and could remember it all, but it's a very frightening experience.
This all sounds like I'm a bit crazy, but when your sugar is low, you kind of are.
I have been a diabetic for over 40 years and have 2 grown children, so I am proff that you can lead a "somewhat" normal life, but controlling your sugar is of the utmost importance.

Where can I get good life insurance?

Q. My husband is 320lbs., smokes, has type 2 daibetes, and has asthma. Obviously, the premiums are extremely high. Do you know of a policy w/ low premiums from a reputable company?

A. There are companies that will issue a life insurance policy on your husband. You are correct. It will be expensive. Consider multiple policies while you and your husband are working to improve your overall financial picture. Increased savings, reduce your spending so that you accumulate more money and the event of his death will have a lesser impact.

Your best bet is to work with a financial professional to get a clear picture of your overall financial situation and the steps you need to take to improve. As your financial situation improves, you can drop one policy.

Consider also, how you will pay for his care if he becomes too sick to work but does not pass away.

Having your husband take his health seriously will be a major improvement.

Good Luck

How long does it takes for steroids to get out of a child's system?

Q. My grandaughter was recently given a steriod treatment fora breathing promblem. Now her blood sugar is high. Don't steriods make your blood sugar high? How long before the steriods are out of her system. We are worried about junvile daibetes because diabetes runs in the family. We are hoping the high blood sugar is due to the steriod treatment. She is only 2 and we hate the thought of her possibly having junvile daibetes.

A. Steroids can make a person temporarily insulin resistant, but the effect is transient. They do not cause permanent diabetes.
