can lady fingers can draw down blood glucose in diebetic?

Q. one of my friends ask me to try this.he ask me to clean 2 lady fingers.cut off the top and the end part.have slice on top of lady fingers with knife .soak them over night with drinking water. and drink the lady fingers drink the next morning. how true is that , that can reduce blood glucose for diebetic and stop insulin later.pls advice.

A. Lady Fingers (aka bhindi or okra)
is just another bogus "cure" being "sold" by the rumor mill to people willing to believe it. Their "research" can not be verified by any reliable, credible laboratory, and most of their "documentation" is by foreign "doctors" who no one can ever contact.

A new "cure" will be making the rounds in a month or so.

If the junk worked as well as the claims say, you can bet it would be big news in every newspaper and medical journal, and one of the pharmaceutical companies would patent it's chemical properties.

Is there a way to measure ketones in the blood?
Q. I know about the sticks(ketosix) that use for measuring ketones in the urine. But knowing the amount in my urine isn't helpful as it's not the accurate measurment of the amount of the ketones in my blood.

Is there a device or something that can measure ketones? Any advance diebetic devices? Heck for that matter is there any advance devices that can measure a array of nutrients in the blood? Not just glucose?

A. Yes, ketones can be measured from a blood sample on a home glucose monitor.

My blood glucose monitor, an Abbott Optium Xceed, can measure both glucose (sugar) and ketones. They are, of course, two different types of test strips.

The ketone test strips are called Optium -Ketone Test Strips. (That's a Greek letter Beta, by the way.)

I'm not aware of a home testing kit that can test for an array of nutrients within the blood, though there are kits available for testing for specific things. i.e. blood glucose, blood ketones, cholesterol, etc.

Your pharmacist would, most likely, be a good person to ask about such devices.

My father's blood sugar is down to 3 in the morning. What can I do?
Q. Once he eats , it goes up again.

(He is a diebetic and on medication for years. He is going to the diebitic clinic, but it's not til Friday)

For his blood to go down to 3, isn't that serious? He is tired all the time and is walking really slow. What can I do in the meantime.

A. I think we need a little more information to answer this question. Do you mean a blood sugar level of 3 or an A1C level of 3?

A normal fasting blood sugar level is about 70-110mg/dL.

If a person's blood sugar is 3 they would be in a coma and be in very serious condition, let alone be walking about and still be conscious. Most glucometers can't even measure that low of a reading. They'll give you an error message.

My fiance has type 1 diabetes and when his blood sugar gets below 30 he starts having seizures from being too low. So, if you can imagine someone with a blood sugar of 3...they'd be in a lot of trouble.

If I were you, I would recheck his blood sugar. If it's low (below 60) he should probably eat or drink something with some simple sugars like some juice or non-diet soda.

Take care and good luck!
